Great Expectations

  • What is measured is what is effected.
  • Expectations will only be met if clearly understood.
  • Performance becomes great when vision becomes clear.

Stephen Covey, Zig Ziglar, Ken Blanchard - all the greats - proclaim the truth and it is so. Not because they have said so but because it just is. So great, now what? You can completely appreciate what is meant, but how do you implement these solid basics?

Easy:

1. Break down what is being done into its simplest terms, metrics and methods.

2. Involve those who do the work with COULD be achieved. Define how to measure and who will do it.

3. Write them down. Put them in a spreadsheet. Post them on a board. Whatever, make it “official.”

4. Communicate broadly to everyone responsible and impacted. This adds accountabilty and buy-in.

5. Measure appropriately, display the results regularly and act on them accordingly.

There. Go do. Don’t wait.
